Eula Robinson Clarke and I represented the DWC at the Home Dedication for the families who will be living in the duplexes that our crew worked on.  It was very moving to see two single mothers with two children each accomplish their goal through Habitat for Humanities.  Hope there’s enough interest among us to help again!!

June’s meeting  - The meeting was cancelled at the last minute due to circumstances beyond our control.  We attempted to reach everyone and hope that noone was unduly inconvenienced.

July’s meeting - Art Ciasca, Director of Programs for SafeSpace,a domestic violence organization, will talk about legislative issues as well as demographic information on the women and children served here in Martin County.

SafeSpace serves 3 counties (Indian River, St. Lucie, and Martin) assisting victims of domestic violence.  This presentation is part of our goal of learning how we can be most effective in increasing awareness of domestic violence in our community.

Bill Ramos, our Democratic candidate for Senator, will also attend to add his support to this cause as well as learning what legislation is needed to further SafeSpace’s work.

Upcoming Issues and Events: 

Your Board of Directors will be considering the following issues at the July 2, 2009 meeting.

1. Possible fund-raising at the Lyric Theatre

2. Alternating general membership meetings between Tuesday night and Saturday night to attract those who cannot attend Saturday meetings due to child care.

3. Changing status of “founding members” to adhere to State By-Laws

4. State Convention in September
