Democratic Women’s Club of Martin County

June 2010 Newsletter

by Barbara Robert, President

Next Meeting - On June 12, 2010, the Golden Girls and Boys of Indiantown will provide entertainment and tell of their experiences growing up in Indiantown. Thanks to Eula Clarke, 1st Vice President, for arranging this presentation. Before their performance, I will bring you news from The Democratic Woman Newsletter. This May, 2010 issue highlights political activity throughout the State.

Last Meeting - At our May meeting, we had the privilege of sharing our space and time with Luella Miner's family. Luella Miner was a DWC member and an activist in the community. Her voice and energy was strong until she passed away. We will truly miss her and her work.

Joseph Smith - That name may not ring a bell, but this young man came with the Building Bridges to Youth group and you may remember his active participation in our discussion. Daisy Carter, Regional Representative, brought to our attention an article in The Stuart News on June 1, 2010, explaining how Joseph went door-to-door to raise enough money to attend a summer program at Princeton University. This young man is going places and it's into Democratic politics. He intends to be the President of the United States but understands the long trip to that position. Anyone want to bet he makes his goal! Count me in!

Gala - The DWC gala was a success thanks to DWC member, Marilyn Mordes. Marilyn can always be counted on to meet her commitments with energy to spare. There were many candidates or their representatives who spoke to the various platforms. DWC members were well represented and it was particularly wonderful to see Ricky Kissen looking so well.

Meet the Candidates Night - On Wednesday, July 14, from 6 to 9 p.m., Miles Grant County Club will host a "Meet the Candidates" night at the clubhouse at 5150 SE Miles Grant Road in Stuart. Joe Crankshaw will moderate the forum of candidates for the upcoming Martin County commission and School Board primary election. Refreshments will be served. Hope you can go!

Board of Directors' Workshop - At our June 29th Directors' Meeting, Donna Harris, Regional Chair and 2010 Convention Chair will conduct a workshop for us. Anyone is welcome to come. The meeting begins at 5 P.M. in the DEC Headquarters.

Democratic Women to Host Fund Raiser for Loranne Ausley - At the April 17th DWCF State Committee Meeting, Sarah Brown, Chair, Finance and Special Events sponsored a plea which became a suggestion that each club should commit to raising $100.00. There are 33 DWCs in the State and so $3,300.00 could be raised. The next State meeting is Saturday, July 24th in Ocala. The State Executive Committee is requesting good participation in this meeting to show our support and a big push one month before the August 24th primary. Anyone wanting to attend this meeting should contact Barbara Robert, 772-341-6035. Be a part of the bigger picture! It's wonderful to be among such a large contingency of Democratic Women!

Other Comments - Let us know of any news you have about a club member or any suggestion you have for programs, newsletter, etc. We exist because of your interest so let us serve you by informing us.

By the way, I'm having lunch with Joannie Wolfberg on Monday. She's in town for the graduations of her grandsons. Can't wait to see her!

Please be prepared to pay your 2010 dues (if you have not already paid) at the meeting June 12th. If unable to attend please mail your $20.00 membership by June 15th to: Democratic Women's Club of Martin Countyt, PO BOX 1513, Palm City, FL 34991-1513.
